Toyota Tacoma same spline as 74 thru 86?

Anyone ever tried using an axle shaft from a Toyota Tacoma to off-set a Toyota older PU axle?? I can get one from a junk yard for $150 but I need to know: How long they are, what the spine count is, O.D. of flange (part where wheel bolts on), bearing size, bearing retainer sleave size.

If your talking about a rearend I know the taco rearends are wider than the IFS rears. I belive the thirdmembers are not interchangeabl either, but that could be just the bolt pattern.

Use an 86-94 IFS rear axle, and chop it 3" on the pass side. That will keep you with the same 3rd front to rear, same gearing, and probably keep it less expensive. I dont think it wont be offset to exactly the right position, but will be closer.

Search the pirate board, someone did that.

I don't want to get 3" closer,...I want it completely lined up. I don't see how people are saying that you can get 3" of offset out of a IFS rear end,..I thought the IFS rears were only 3" wider than the pre IFS rears not 6"????

Poppycock on the POR chopped an IFS rear to do what you want Chopped 3" its still not an exact match but very close
besides look under any toy now with it centered its not an exact staight shot

yeah, so if you cut 3" off the pass side, it would move the pinion 3" closer then match up with a front solid axle width since it is 3" narrower and you took away 3" from the rear .. seems like a bit less work then shortening 1 side and lengthing the other side, to where it would be better. you want it completly right, get a cruiser rear which still probably wont be completely correct or have a custom housing and axles made .. though I bet thats cost prohibitive.

I have a Tacoma rear cut down about 3" on the pass side and a rear CV shaft. It works great. No vibes and no breakage.

Shrock-I've been told that the 8" third will not fit in a taco housing, but will the gears that are in my yota 8" fit on a taco carrier?

AFAIK, they will not. I believe the bolt patter on the ring gear is different. Randy's or Reider's will be able to tell you for sure.

Here is a great source of info on Toy diffs.
