Reverse Switch & 5th Gear Switch ??

Are they interchangeable? I think my reverse switch is toast. I'm not using the 5th gear switch. I'm wondering if I can just swap the two.... I'm not home now to look at a spare tranny.... Thanks!

Same switch, different connector. That prevents you from accidentally swapping the plugs at the firewall. You'll have to cut and splice the right connector onto the switch wires. Another option is to wire a manual toggle switch on the dashboard to control the backup lights. HTH

Thanks for that info. Those switches are a terrible design.

Since Crow doesn't use the 5th switch, it would be possible to wire the two connectors together (at the firewall) so the backup light switch could accept either and still function.

Re: Reverse Switch & 5th Gear Switch ??

My 5th gear switch had the wires broken off, so I pulled that and the reverse switch from a spare late model tranny. Cut the connector off my harness, and used the connector from the 5th gear switch I scavenged and the "new" reverse switch plugged right into the 5th gear connector (which replaced my original connector). Not sure if this makes sense, but my reverse lights work fine now....

Re: Reverse Switch & 5th Gear Switch ??

I guess if I had wired it wrong and while shifting into 5th gear, my reverse lights came on, it would give one hell of a scare to someone following me...

>>are they the same as the 4wd switch?<<
>>also, what is the 5th gear switch for?<<
Rich: same switch, different wire length. The 4wd switch wires aren't long enough to make it up the firewall to the connectors. This is why you should always hang on to your wires and connectors after the wires break off of the switches. You can splice the wires onto any good switch.
The 5th gear switch tells the ECM to disengage the EGR system when the tranny is in 5th gear. (If your Zuk is like mine, the EGR system is disengaged all the time!) HTH
