Stock Fuel and Return Line Diameter?

Considering the fact that it will soon be snowing here in Buffalo I need to bite the bullet and replace my lines. Where can I buy fuel line for the replacement? Would NAPA carry the right size? I am at school and want to pick up the line on my way home so I donít really know what the diameter of either line is... Also, I have heard of people replacing their steel lines with rubber ones? Is this safe? Legal? Thanks for your help.

Steel main fuel line is 5/16" or 8mm . Return line I think is 3/16", but not sure on that one. Unless there is a problem with the original steel lines, I'd stick with them for safety . Rubber unless protected can be cut or ripped .
