Re: flairs gone

I used an angle grinder to grind off the spot welds, worked good, took 5 minutes each

Re: flairs gone

Pick up a good spot-weld drill bit.

Re: flairs gone

I had one, went dull fast. Angle grinder is faster but will distroy the flare bracket if you were planning to reuse it

Re: flairs gone

I hear you. The first one we had was turd. It dulled fast and chipped teeth. Got one from Snap-on and it's wayyyy better, and we picked up several extra bits for it. Zip thru the welds in seconds. Took both rocker flanges of my GV in under a half hour. Best to centerpunch the weld first so the bit doesn't wander.

Re: flairs gone

if you grind correctly you won't have a hole.

Re: flairs gone

dont grind all the way through, grind most of the spot weld and then "pop" it off by pulling. I did one or two at a time then ground off the knubs that were left, cant even tell anything was there

Re: flairs gone

Grinding off the spot welds with an angle grinder works, but it is such slow progress. I started out taking mine off that way, but it was so frustratingly slow. I decided that since my fenders were rusted and needed repairs anyways, I'd just drill through the spot welds and repair the small holes that were left over. That worked much better.
