4WD No Worky... Front axle Not engaging...

Here's the symptoms:

Both front hubs lock; the front driveshaft turns; neither tire spins. There is some knocking when the front axle flexes back and forth but other than that, there's no new noise.

Do you think it's a broken Birfield joint, a blown hub, an evil third member, what?

I'm really beginning to hate my Zuk...Le'see within the last 2 weeks: I've replaced both rear axles, brakes, rear driveshaft, blew a front tire, lost all brakes 80 miles from home, changed diff fluids AGAIN, bled brakes AGAIN...

When does this madness stop?!?

Sounds like a third member,
"when does this madness stop?"-------When you learn the limitations of the Sammy and start treating her a little better---
Ease up on the go pedal-- Treat her with respect--

Does the DS turn when the xfer is in 2wd? If it doesnt, then its definitly in the axle.
If it does it still could be.

Are you sure both hubs are engaging? lock both and the xfer, jack up one side and see if
it is locked. if it isn't, it could be old grease keeping a hub from engaging.

It could be birfs, do you hear grinding/clanking?

It could be xfer, does the DS lock in 4wd and free front hubs?

More testing...

I would first check the hubs. I had the same problem, changed the front hubs to some new ones, and it works great now.

Sounds like hubs. If it was a broken ring and pinion you'd have all sorts of gawd awful noises on there and would have noticed or heard a big BANG!

Grease the hub innards.
