1.6L throttle body / EFI work with samurai harness

Will a 1.6L throttle body / EFI and intake manifold from an 89-90 Kick work properly if plugged into 1994 samurai factory harness? Can I just keep the stock harness and use the ECM from the kick?

Re: 1.6L throttle body / EFI work with samurai harness

....and if I can't use the 1.6L throttle body / EFI from an early model kick with a late model Samurai harness - I am assuming that I can use the 1.3L EFI setup on the 1.6L block?

Re: 1.6L throttle body / EFI work with samurai harness

If I remember corectly the whole efi 1.6l motor; intake, tb, and block, will still be efi in an efi sami, using the sami harness and ecu. I had a donor tracker that I was goin to do the same thing, in my efi sami, but chose not to now that I have the swift gti donor, that I'm workin on puttin in my sami. Anyways I have been told that the tracker ecu's will work on stock efi samis, that being said it is already programed to run a 1.6, so your efi 1.6 will run just like it should in the sami, if you plug in the tracker ecu. There is a small power loss on the 1.6 when running the sami's ecu (programed for a 1.3) so you would be in good shape. Good luck, hope this helps, -Drew
P.S. This info is for an 8 valve, just so you know. I'm guessing you have access to a whole 1.6 motor, correct?

I think Zooky said that the plugs were the same, so it should swap in.

BTW - much better pic in your tag.

Re: 1.6L throttle body / EFI work with samurai harness

I will be picking up a 94 rust-free samurai and I want to swap everything from my 88-1/2 onto it (suspension, transfer case) and my 1.6 Valve motor but do not want to rewire everything (again). Ideally I would like to use the 1.6L block, intake manifold and throttle body setup and just plug it in to the Samurai's stock ECM......will it work?

Re: 1.6L throttle body / EFI work with samurai harness

Pug, I'd plug the 1.6 ECM into the Samurai harness and it should work fine. I think the plugs on the 8v are compatible with the EFI 1.3 and using the correct ECM would allow the engine to get the proper fuel and air mixture. There's only a couple of screws mounting the ECM under the dash so it is not much trouble to swap.

....do you think the Samurai ECU will work OK with this setup or should I just use the Kick ECU??

Re: 1.6L throttle body / EFI work with samurai harness

I agree with Tim. The 1.3 ECU may work, but the computer is programmed based on the parameters for the 1.3 engine's fuel and air requirements. I would guess the performance would be less than optimal.
