Manual Trans Switches... Which one is which?

The battery in my ohm meter died... And I'm stuck at home without transportation to get another one.

There are two sensors on the top of the tranny. I'm sure 1 is for the reverse lights and 1 is for 5th gear but which one is which? My manuals do not say

Thanks for the help.

I should have added that my sam is an 88 but I don't think they ever changed the tranny much...

Here's a snapshot of what's in the FSM wiring diagram. I think it was for an 88 but I'm not sure.

That's the FSM. hmmm

One of my manuals has those same colors listed (oddly the other disagrees), but my colors do not match either.

I'll make a test light and find out for sure (heh, where's that mag light?)

I appreciate your time though

The one closest to the engine is the reverse light switch.

Oh well. It was worth a shot. I downloaded the FSM and the wiring diagram from someone here a while back when they had an FTP server running. I've never checked to see how accurate the colors are on the wiring diagram.

Re: Manual Trans Switches... Which one is which?

Hey, don't worry about it.

From what I've seen while doing this INSANE rewire (97 tracker wire-looms into 88 Sam... The books don't cover the many color changes as the circuit passes through wire loom after wire-loom.

Any help is always appreciated.

Re: Manual Trans Switches... Which one is which?

One of these switches (I can't remember which) is the same switch (part number and all) as the 4WD switch on the t-case. If you have an extra around or know someone who has an extra, you can use it. I can't remember that part number, but I think it is 29971-80050. Anyway, you can find it at any dealership or Suzuki retail outlet! P.S.- did you take out the tranny without detaching the plugs at the firewall?

Shoot! Also, you can take the plug and just screw it into the whole. You should still be able to drive the vehicle I think. Hope that helps; unless this fact was already assumed.
