OT? Ideas and suggestions for Melt \'02 tape...

Okay, here's what I am doing in the '02 tape that will be different from the '01 tape:

Cut the Saturday Night Presentation stuff down drastically to just the interesting stuff. I don't know what was going through my mind with last years's show.

Tighten up the event sections to highlight more of the action.

Lose the MST2k look (it got zero response -- did anyone spend an evening with friends watching it making smart comments to the action like they do on MST3K?) but leave in the funny and carnage video segment.

Add a bit of tech stuff (I may need to shoot a bit more of video for this)

Here's the big change: copy all the raw footage to the computer and create uncut Video CDs (VCDs) of each contributor's work (even the stuff I put into the show) so you all can have access to it all. The quality won't be as good and you'll need a PC (with a CD player) to play them, but each VCD volume will be very affordable!

Any comments/additions?

ACK- i have not forgotten that i need to send you photos... just been busy as all get out lately! will try to get that out htis next week for you. even if you don't use them on the VCD they are some nice photos.
I like the idea of a VCD. It will be alot cheaper for everyone... Most newer DVD players support VCD format too so you may be able to watch it thru your DVD player on your TV as well.
Will you be setting the whole thing to music?

Ok, you MUST DO THIS!!!!!
The vcd is a great idea BUT for those of us that are computer nerds and know about
video compression please have a 700mb cd and convert the video to DIVX!!!!!!!
Use the mpeg 3 audio compression at like 32khz or 44khz
run 340x240 or use a common aspect raitio (use a calcualtor to see what the max res
would be with a 700mb cd!) and encode it.
Check out www.vcdhelp.com!!!!
Or:
send me the source video on DV, DVD, VHS, SVHS, ummmm, Jaz cartridge, etc... and I'll encode it properly for you with multiple formats.
I could even do a low size .asf or .wmv for online streaming
All for free to fellow zookers of course!
VHS Costly, big, slow crappy
VCD (mpeg-1) Super cheap!!! Kinna looks bad, easy to work with and play
SVCD (mpeg-2) SUPER cheap, higher quality, more cd's for longer times!!! 1/2 hr per disk!
DIVX ("""""""mpeg-4""""""" not a true ISO standard though!!!!) VERY HIGH QUALITY!!! NOT COMPATABLE WITH DVD/CD PLAYERS!!! FAST COMPUTER REQUIRED. super DUPER CHEAP! Long encoding time!
.asf/.wmv/.ra/.qt for streaming options Stupid, crappy quality, bandwith is espenisve! stupid codecs and players!!!! just a bastard to work with.
Let me know if my services can be used

WHAT....no directors cut????
Maybe more trail action would be cool, and less fireside chat! I liked the meet and greet part too...but that's just me!
