First thing to check is the rear diff. Look and see if it has 1 or 2 brake lines that drop down from the frame to the housing. Also > Square or round vents in the dash.

Main thing is the square dash vents. I have a early 88 that has the round dash vents and 1 brake line to the rear axel. Also the radio front houseing is builted into the dash instead of a add on.

Re: what\'s the difference: 88 and under

Do a search on this BBS. There is alot of information about the changes that were made in 88.5. During the changover, there was some carryover of the noncosmetic equipment. However the most obvious clues to notice, as mentioned above, is the early '88 had round hole dash vents with the radio hung under the dash and the '88.5 had square dash vent holes with the radio in the dash. The steering wheel maybe different too. There was many othere changes after '88.5 in spring rates, 5th gear ratio, flange size, brakes and I believe the radiator was changed too. There was other "upgrades" that happened around that time too. The rear seat was removed sometime in the '90s I believe.

I prefer the look of the early dashes.
