Getting her crankin\' again

I've just had a valve job done on my '87Sam and I'm having nothing but trouble getting it started again. She has, in addition to the "new" valves, a new distributor cap, plug wires, coil, radiator, carnk gear, tensioner pulley, and of course plugs. I have a Haynes manual that I'm usaing for reference, but it seems that no matter hao carefully I align the crank, cam, and distributor at TDC it just won't kick over. Cranks like a banshee but I can't coax her into turning over and running. I figure I must be doing something wrong or missing a trick someplace here. Oh yes, I have naturally tried moving the distributor to different spots trying to please this difficult wench but no luck. Suggestions from the audience of experts out there, if you please. Pllleeaassseee!

Re: Getting her crankin\' again

Just found the website with the LJ80 Service Manual and I think its gonna help a whole bunch. Wonder if I can get a refund on my good-for-caca Haynes manual? I'm too sure!

Re: Getting her crankin\' again

First things first, verify you have spark and gas. Without the basics, well thats obvious!

Make sure the timing belt is properly aligned.

Make sure your dist is not 180 out, not likely or you would be popping out the carb.

Have you been talking nicely to it? Sometimes they sulk...
