OT:Ultra crawl gears-unimog ride

A friend in my club bought a unimog farm tractor. They look just like a unimog but have farm stuff on it.It has 20 speeds foreward,T-case, plus gear reduction at the axle.He thinks its like 4000 to one,yep 4000 to one.I timed the tire rotation. It took 1 minute for the valve stem to rotate one revolution. That is slow.He also does not need plates on it to put it on the road.Just the safety sign in back. That is cool.RR

Can you post a pic or two? I personally like the Unimogs and the Pinzgauers. Great for mud and snow, but not enough articulation for serious rockcrawling.

ok, clarification, a pinz does not articulate well, will lift a tire if it crawls over a penny.

Re: OT:Ultra crawl gears-unimog ride

Hey RRick,

quite a while... guess what, down here you can get a decent mog (mod. 416 typically ´69-74) with a OM352(CI) diesel engine 90hp, but gobs of torque from 3k-6k$ ...

my GF threatened me to kick me out of the house if i bring one home ;o( ...

also, a pair of 404 axles (hub to hub) runs 1K$ ... and those have 7.something gears and selective lockers front/back.... how´s that for a good set of wheels for the sami???

GF also threatened to kick me out if I buy a pair of those ;o) ... well...

take care,
Alfred

Re: OT:Ultra crawl gears-unimog ride

yeah, ifs on all 4 corners... the 6x6 are very nice tho...

also, we had the haflinger ( the prinz's smaller brother) in the army, and they are basically an ATV from 50 years ago... they roll easily, but 2 people put them up again... you can see parallels to the early samis ... like small engines (like 600cc) with 20 hp or so

btw... pinzgauer and haflinger are austrian (mountain) horse breeds that gave those 4x4s and 6x6 their name
