help!! samurai won\'t run.**UPDATED***

went out to go to work this am. started up fine . drove a few miles and engine bogged down and died. restarted engine, ran for a few minutes bogged and died. was able to restart a few times and got it a little closer to home, then it would not start anymore. the engine /starter turns over but won't fire up. i have a full tank of gas, battery is good, so far. as i was being towed home, i had the key turned all the way to the right so that all power was on. put it in gear as i was being towed and still would not fire up. now samurai is sitting under the carport. where should i start looking.? thanks, tommy

Re: help!! samurai won\'t run.

A good place to start is to check to see if your getting fuel to the carb and spark to the plugs. Could be a bad fuel pump filter or clogged fuel if it is not getting gas. Coil could be bad if it's not getting spark, but the computer does not control the spark on the 1.3.

Re: help!! samurai won\'t run.

without the computer, the zook will run, but it won't idle...

There should be other signs if its the comp... like blown ignition fuses everytime you turn the key on

Re: help!! samurai won\'t run.

Check all of the little vaccuum hoses on the carb. Mine did basically the same thing and it was because the one of the hoses on the back of the carb had come loose.

Re: help!! samurai won\'t run.

Check for spark first. If its comming out of thre coil, be sure its making it to the plugs.

If no spark, test the coil separately. Dissconnect the primary wires. Ground the neg side. Tap on the pos side post with a hot wire. You should have spark. If not, coil is dead.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: help!! samurai won\'t run.

THANKS ALL, i checked plugs not fouled, cap and rotor in good condition, new plug wires. my fuel filter is of unknown age, and will replace tomorrow. all the little vacuum hoses appear in good shape. when i cheange my fuel fiter tomorrow, if i turn on the key while the fuel is off, gas should come spraying out of the line from the tank. that should tell me if my fuel pump is working right? thanks again, tommy

Re: help!! samurai won\'t run.

do you have efi or an electric fuel pump
the manual one will not
you will have to turn it over to make it squirt
please be very carefull and unhook your coil to do this
if it does spark with raw gas around *BOOM*
it's always better to be safe than sorry
ps
did you test the coil and did you ever get a spark you did not say that you got a spark

Re: help!! samurai won\'t run.

GA ZUKI is right, with a mechanical fuel pump gas will not be coming out with the fuel line disconnected at the fuel filter. I would check it BEFORE changing the filter to determine if it is a fuel delivery problem or if you need to concentrate on another potential cause. If you are getting adequate fuel to the carb you can move on to the next most likely cause. Half of troubleshooting is eliminating things that are NOT causing the problem.
