I GOT THE AXLE OUT! new?

First of all, thanks for all the suggestions on how to remove it. Well my bearing is SHOT. I found one for 40$, why does no one carry these? 1 store out of about 15 that I called had it in stock. O.K. my next question is how do I get the flange out that holds the seal in? I tried to pry it but it was starting to bend. Thanks again guys!

Re: I GOT THE AXLE OUT! new?

O.K. tell me if I have this right. From the diff out it goes, plastic retainer with holes in it, about a quarter inch gap, the metal retainer, then the seal. The reason that I am asking is that when I pulled it apart my seal or most of it was in the quarter inch gap between the plastic retainer and the metal one. Does that make sense?

Just get a big screw driver or the claw of a claw hammer on it and pop it out. don't worry about bending it, you aren't reusing it anyway.

Re: I GOT THE AXLE OUT! new?

The claw of a hammer popped it right out, thanks. Why am I not reusing it? I did not get a new one with the seals, will I get one with the bearing? And last which way does the seal go in? Spring towards the wheel or towards the pumpkin?

An assumption on my part. If the bearing was bad, It's a near certanty the seal was damaged. Not always, but I always replace the seal at the same time. If you wern't replacing it, Why were you taking it out?

Re: I GOT THE AXLE OUT! new?

Okay, if you're not pist now, you will be. You need to buy a new seal. Best bet is the dealer on this.

Also, check the bearing you bought. Did it come with a bearing retainer (collar)? If not, order that too. You'll need a press to do this by the book, otherwise, you need to CAREFULLY cut the collar almost all the way thru with a cut off tool. The pull the bearing off. Clean it up and install the new bearing. Heat the collar up by putting on top of a 100W lite bulb for 15-20 mins, drop onto the shaft and make sure it is fully installed.

Re: I GOT THE AXLE OUT! new?

You guys were right on every point. The seal was trashed and my bearing did not come with a coupler. I did not find out about the coupler until I was at the machine shop getting the bearing taken off. The zuk is now back on the road! Thank you guys for all of your input, I could not have done it without you.
