DANA 18 TRANSFERCASE WITH WARREN OVERDRIVE

OK this is the question. I have a chance to pick up a Dana 18 T-Case with a Warren OD.
It is set up to run devorced (like a sami).
That would give me a twin stick T-Case, PLUS a two speed behind that.
I believe it is a 25% overdrive. I would love to be able to run Klune-V or something like it.
But the price is good and the OD would be nice.
So lets hear the Pro's and the Con's.
Thanks for the input.

Re: DANA 18 TRANSFERCASE WITH WARREN OVERDRIVE

it'll be a Warn overdrive. they're a nice unit, and the later 'saturn' overdrives are based on the same old spicer/warn units. o be aware, if its the unit I'm thining of, you can only use OD in 2 wheel drive...twin stick or not. ( OD unit attaches to the rear output shaft) *** check the bearings, and synchros for the OD - it's an older unit, and AFAIK, you cant get parts like synchros for them any more.

having said that, can you get a pic? I'l LOVE to see how they did the divorced mount on it 8^D

Re: DANA 18 TRANSFERCASE WITH WARREN OVERDRIVE

The Divorce mount is a Advanced Adapters kit (from the early 70's time frame).
How tuff is it to check the synchros ? The bearings I can see, but I am not sure how to check the synchros ? I do know it was a project from years gone past that never got finished.
I was told the T-Case had been gone through. I Hope to get a chance to see it this weekend.
The price for the package is less than Advanced Adapters wants for the adapter kit (by almost $175).

Re: DANA 18 TRANSFERCASE WITH WARREN OVERDRIVE

the synchros look just like the cage type synchros in the old US made trannies - look for ridges in the splines, worn ( mising!!) teeth, brass filings in the oil ( may not be possible if its been 'gone through'), rounded ends on the synchros ( some is ok, but if the ends of the teth are receding, thats not good)

if the price is good, and it looks 'ok' then go for it - they were pretty tough units: so long as its not 'bagged', I dont think you'd be able to hurt it under a zook.
