OT: I\'m Out of the Military! YEAH!

Okay, I found out today ( a few hrs ago ) that I can get out of the military! I've been under what we call "stop loss"; it is where they can hold me in for an undetermined amount of time till they feel like they can let me out. (thats in a nut shell, there is more to it ) Anyway, they have been holding me in since January 02 and I lost my Firefighter job, and house back home, wife also lost her job as well because of this crap. But, I'm not going over seas this Aug like I was planning on, that is the only bad news. I would have liked to go over one more time to get some extra money before I get out.
Well, I'm moving back to Columbus Ohio (my old stomping grounds) and will be looking for a good Firefighter job there. I've got a few good leads but please keep my wife and I in your prayers as it will be tough the 1st month or so. I'm just glad that I'm out and can now start my "normal" life.
Since this has come up, I now can't go to the Melt. Have to save my money! I also had to cancel my race weekend at the track for my race bike (sporkbike racing ***edit sport bike racing***), that sucks too because I put a lot into my race bike that now I've got to wait. Maybe I can go next yr at the Melt ? I'll be closer this time.

My last day will be sometime at the end of July or early Aug.

Congrats and thank you for your service 8^). Now you can get back to normal and not have to call everyone sir and what not. If you wanted to move to oregon the Police dept. will be hiring soon I think.....8^) Anyway good luck, it seems there are alot of wildland firefighter positions open right now.

Hold on Brian! You can't leave yet! You still owe me a t-case, remember? Let's get together at the Uwharries one time for a little wheeling before you go. Maybe we can get R/T to come up too, since neither of us is going to the 'melt.
BTW, what's a sporkbike?

You may already know this but civilian federal employment beats food stamps. If memory serves me, there were a few civilian career firefighters at Ellsworth AFB near where I used to be a professional firefighter in Rapid City, SD.

Congrats Brian!!

I hadn't heard the message came out today, should be a bunch of happy folks The Air Force will miss you, but I can't blame you at all. It sure isn't the AF that I joined 17 years ago.

Like was previously suggested, don't forget about civilian government jobs, you will have a hiring preference thanks to being a veteran.

Best of luck with everything, keep us posted and stay in touch!! We still have to go wheelin' together some time, don't forget

Re: OT: I\'m Out of the Military! YEAH!

Thanks for serving our country!

My wife grew up in Pickerington (just outside of Columbus). We head out there a couple times a year. The next time we're out there maybe you can hook us up for some wheelin'. You know, the melt is only a couple of hours past Columbus...
