Quick ? about Brazing

I am going to experiment a little with brazing this weekend and had a quick question. If you get the flux coated rods you dont need to buy the flux compound that you brush onto the metal, correct? My cat converter clogged up so I had to remove it to "correct" the problem. I clamped it back on but it leaks a little so I was going to try brazing it.

Also, I have heard you could braze with a coat hanger? I assume you would need to buy some brazing flux though?

Thanks

Re: Quick ? about Brazing

The term brazing refers to welding with flux coated brass. When you use coat hanger, it is gas welding. Both will work, but you will have much better results with the real brazing rod, its much easier to work with.

as to the pre fluxed rods.... you do not have to use any other flux to weld with them

Re: Quick ? about Brazing

No flux as previously stated, but do tak the time to wire brush the area as clean as possible. I will make things go ever so much easier.
