Re: axles...how do they come apart?...help me

Take the 4 bolts out of the center of the wheel hub. Put your tire back on and kick the tire from the underneath the car(provided you have the car on proper stands). You'll eventually get the axles to push out. It shouldn't take very much work to do this. If you are just taking the axles out to remove the third member then you don't need to take off the brake lines as you can push the axle out just far enough for the splined ends to back out of the third member.

I hope this helps.

Hook up a chain to the four bolts and yank real hard a few times, or put the tire back on and hit real hard w/ a BFH. All of that is assuming you don't have a slide hammer.

A pickup truck??? I've never seen one that a size 9 1/2 Redwing with a 200 lb handle on it wouldn't remove. It must have been on there!

Re: axles...how do they come apart?...help me

well...my 9 1/2 wolverine steel tips didnt work...neither did yanking on the wheel...a good sized snap-on dead blow....or a pry bar....i dont own a slide hammer ....so i made a 2000lb slide hammer :-)

after beating on the axle for an hour and a half it kinda had me pissed off....even my ford 9" in the bronco never gave me this much trouble...used the samurai and it took me 5 minutes muhahahahahah!!! now my neighbor can say he lives nextdoor to a real redneck

*note* this was a spare axle...im using the housing to weld the spoa pads on...not the axle currently in my zuk...

1 question:

did you have the brakes locked while you were removing the axle? It sounds like that might have been the problem. I've pulled apart a few axles and NEVER had them give me that much trouble.
