Dove-tailed rear?
Anyone here dove tailed the rear of the Sammy?

I'm planning on going to 37" tires (as soon as I put a Sidewinder up front) and I need to make room. The front will be tube-d out with just the bonnet/hood remaining.

On the rear, I'm thinking of dovetailing it. While in Moab, I saw several Jeeps with this mod and I liked it a lot. One guy I spoke with said it wasn't hard at all to do. And plasma will make it even easier.

Any thoughts?

Just wondering in anyone here took on such a mod.

Basically, that's it.

Dovetail is the pic above.

Sidewinders are the new axles from Spidertrax. Very nice, unbendable tubes. They use the Kick rear chunks. The front uses D44 knuckles.

Currently, I'm running the Sidewinder in the rear (my old tube was bent). I've got the Calmini HD shafts in it, so I'm fairly certain that hold up to 37's, but 35's with no problem.

Eddie C. has them on the new STX and runs 35"s and 37"s, depending on the ARCA event. Now that I've seen a Sammy on 37"s, I fixated.

Re: Dove-tailed rear?
if he uses exhaust pipe from a sidekick for the front end tubing then it is still suzuki (joke)
if you would have went with the Toyota axles that would have been ok, they are made from the same people that make the sami axles

That's SO ugly yet functional it's cool! But, what would you do about your gas tank?

Re: Dove-tailed rear?
More info on the Sidewinders please. How much $? Is it pretty much the same as the Trail Tough setup? I've been wanting to get rid of the birfields.

Re: Dove-tailed rear?
Similar, except the Sidewinder uses 1/4" tube and plate steel throughout. No sidekick diff housing. It's basically, the whole axle is a skidplate. The center looks like those cool coffin shaped drag strip housings from Comp Eng.

I believe they cost about a grand for the front. A bare rear tube for stock width (no shafts, no 3rd member) is $500. Full floater is a grand. But you can call for the exact price.
