rear output tcase seal

when i put in 4.16 gears in the tcase last year, i replaced the rear output seal. shouldnt have done that, because now it leaks.

thinking of taking the case off to install a set of reinforced arms, so i figure while i have it off, i might as well fix the leak. i'm guessing that i'll have to take it all apart to get to the seal (there is no other way, right?)...

what should i do differently this time to make sure that the new seal won't leak? is there some sort of special coating that i should put on the seal before i put it in the case? also, am i going to have to take the whole case apart, or will the backside just pop off by itself, leaving the guts connected to the front side?

thanks for the help

Re: rear output tcase seal

I have the same problem . I got a Speedy Sleeve from Napa , the output shaft is scored from the old seal . The only decent way to install a sleeve is to remove the shaft , and press it on. It's a real pain , but otherwise a new seal isn't going to fix it . As soon as I get time , I may try to see if there is a way to install it without removing and disassembling the case , I sure hope so . The sleeve number on the one they gave me is a CR 99147 (Chicago Rawhide) . The size range is 1.49" to 1.496" . Hope this helps ,
