Re: need info on which locker i need.

If your side gears are in good condition, you can use the 1510 ..

1510 all the way, it has better manners on road. That's the one that I have in the rear.

howdy,
so the couplers are the side gears? and i guess these lockers will fit in both the front and rear. but with the front needing beefed birfield. so in that in that case who sell the best barfields?

howdy,
will a locker put any unwanted preesure onto the R&P's. and will the samurai locker work with 5.38:1 gears or should i switch back to 4.57:1 gears?

Yea your gearing doesnt make a difference. It puts a bit more strane on the whole rearend but mostly from axle wrap. I need to build a traction bar bad . My springs are kinda flat now but im goin to YJ when i find a set anyway. After you drive with that locker in for awhile make sure you check your pinion gear, most of them loosen up a touch

Re: need info on which locker i need.

howdy,
just to let everyone know, i'm not much of a drivetrain man. i am an engine guy. i know a little about drivetrain but not as much as i need to know. and now that i have my engine where i want it, this year is devoted to drivetrain.
but any who. i want to install a single bar traction control bar in the center of the rear. but i am worried about flex lost to the bar control.

Re: need info on which locker i need.

see i thought there would be but you dont. The reason is the center of your axle hardly drops at all. WHen it does, becuase of the shackles its actualy swings in towards the frotn alittle. Makes sense or youd drop your driveshaft every bump

Re: need info on which locker i need.

Couplers are not the same as side gears. The stock side gears have an angled round tooth compared to the Lockright side coupler which uses square teeth. They are not interchangable. Most people use the 1510, as the stock side gears will tolerate a lot more axle tube misallignment than the side couplers. Besides, the 1510's are cheaper. There is an article in our tech section that would answer your questions on traction bars.
