fusible link

My daughter's 88.5 Sam has burns the wire that I believe is the fusible link. Happened twice, always at night in the rain. I am looking at the front turn indicator lamp-it's dim and does not flash. There is no rubber seal on the lens. I am assuming that the lamp holder is supposed to be grounded at the reflector (it's v. badly corroded). Would this cause the link to burn? What fuse size would be appropriate to splice into a home made link? TIA, Charlie
