\'96 Tracker w/low idle

Hi all:
I posted this a long time ago and thought maybe someone came up with an answer. I think this is something that is somewhat common the post '96 Trackers and 'kicks but nobody has come up with or at least posted the fix .... the vehicle idles really low -- sometimes stalling -- when coming to a stop.

It doesn't do it all the time but usually does after it's been driven then stopped then restarted. I believe the IACV (idle air control valve) may be involved.

The vehicle otherwise runs great and has turned back an impressive 30+ mpg on the highway with 235 tires. No trouble codes are -- or have ever been -- stored. The problem also sometimes appears when in low-range off pavement. The motor just idles lower and lower and then sometimes stalls. Sometimes it runs at 200 rpm then slowly, slowly, the idle creeps back up, up to normal.

No vacuum leaks are detected, the EGR is good, the TPS is within spec .... everything seems fine but the problem remains. The fact that the idle slowly returns to normal makes me think vacuum problem. Ideas? Suggestions?

Re: \'96 Tracker w/low idle

I'd start looking at low fuel pressure, maybe the pump is getting weak, or sucking air .
