my 87 zuk just quit starting up today. it has started fine since i bought it. but now it just wont even turn over. what is up. i am new to the zuk world and dont know nearly enough about them yet. somebody please help me.
i think that you may be right sky. i tested everything out and the starter/solenoid is getting full power from the battery it just isnt working. i am gonna get a new starter/solenoid as soon as i can get a ride to auto zone.
Make sure that the small 1/4 inch connector is tight on the starter, and you need to be sure that there is 12 volts there while the key is in the crank position. You can check the starter by running a wire directly from the battery to the small terminal on the starter (be sure that the truck is in neutral, and the e-brake set). Sounds like you need the relay update to your wiring harness to me.
A relay gets wired in between the factory harness and the starter. Suzuki in all their infinite wisdom designed a wiring harness that didn't have enough current carrying capacity to drive the starter motor for any length of time. A relay is wired in between the start wire and the starter, allowing a larger gauge wire to be directly hooked from the battery to the start terminal. The relay only costs $4. from Auto works, and installs in minutes. Do a search on starter relays, there are many threads covering this.
