1.6 8V \'Kick/Tracker starter question

will a starter from any year 1.6 8V work on any 1.6 8v?

I am getting everything ready for the engine transplant and I want all the necessary bits and pieces at hand. So, when I walk up to the parts counter, I'll know which year of 'Kick/Tracker starter to get (if it matters...).

Once again digging in the engine compartment, I remain

Re: 1.6 8V \'Kick/Tracker starter question

Wellllll...

I don't rightly know.

I was told that 1.3 starters "may not work as well" on a 1.6 block (whatever that means...) I suspect that it will work fine as long as I have a 1.3 flywheel. I have three 1.3 starters on hand right now myself.

If I CAN use a 1.3, you can count on me recycling the best one i have!

Re: 1.6 8V \'Kick/Tracker starter question

I believe the 1.6 starters have a reduction gear in them that allows for more cranking torque. I'v also heard something about the 1.3 starter needing some minor grinding (or is it the 1.6 block needs minor grinding for the 1.3 starter to fit). Anyways, just rumors.

Re: 1.6 8V \'Kick/Tracker starter question

In an installation article I read be Glenn Wakefield you just have to shave about an 1/4" off the block to use the 1.3 starter. You also need to use the 1.3 flywheel. I think that's what TT is doing on mine, if you want to know for sure I can ask Brent at TT on monday.

I have a 1.3 starter from AutoZone on my 1.6L block. No modifications were necessary.
