Problem with \'93 Suzuki Escudo Jap Import Steering

how's it going ? i have a 1993 suzuki escudo jap import. my steering makes a bad rubbing noise sometimes when i'm going slow and have to turn it alot, e.g. parking, taking off .. it pisses me off because the jeep is [censored]-cool otherwise. i've been advised it could be the 'bushels' ? but this would cost a fortune to go to a garage for them to dismantle the steering column .. i regularly flood the steering column with silicon/wd 40 which reduces the noise but does not take it completely away. it gets embarrassing at times because it can be very loud sometimes. i'm considering tackling the steering column myself to try and lubricate the column and see if this takes away the noise. has anyone out there had a problem like this before ? does anyone have any suggestions on how i might fix the problem ?

The bushings in my steering column are doing the same thing. As far as I know, they aren't even availale as a replacement. The lower one is totally shot, and makes a terrible noise at certain times . I'm just going to change columns this summer.

I'm just going to swap mine out for a used one. The shaft u-joint is junk anyway. I'd check the thing out closely to see if the length of the shaft is binding, or maybe someone has hit the steering wheel , partially collapsing the column . I'm not too sure that isn't part of the problem with mine . If the column gets collapsed , there is no fixing it . Suzuki won't sell the individual parts inside of their columns as far as I know. I'd start hunting the salvage yards, too .

Just another thought , is that noise at the top (behind the wheel), or the bottom of the column? Try grabbing the steering shaft on the engine side of the firewall , and see if it has play in it side to side....

Try replacing or lubracating the u-joint right in front of the firewall on teh steering shaft. Mine made a noise similar to what you described, and soaking that u-joint with wd-40 a few times fixed it.
