4.3 engine swap

I tried to do a search but the search was down. I can't recall who it was,but someone had done the 4.3 swap and was willing to divulge information on the swap wihout being tortured. Any info would be greatly appreciated. (I think I got myself into a f%$%#[email protected]# mess) Thanks Brian

Re: 4.3 engine swap

Hey Brian, how goes? Why the mess? Have you started it already? I'm going to be doing the swap in a month or so but from what I have gathered so far, it isn't too bad. If you want, you can contact me through my e-mail and I'd be more than happy to help you out. Believe me, I know there are people out there that have done it and for some reason, are very reluctant to pass on the info! AHH! Why? Who knows.
Anyway, let me know how far along you are with regards to your project and I'll help you any way I can.
Good luck!

Steve

Brian,
I just tried my e-mail and it is active. You may have typed it incorrectly or the Hotmail site may have been temporarily down. Try it again, or leave me a message here and I'll e-mail you.

Cheers,
Steve

Re: 4.3 engine swap

My questions are does the transfer case need to be moved back 6 inches as in a V-8 swap? Also what shaft is used to connect the 200r4 and the stock transfer case. More questions to come. Thanks Brian

Re: 4.3 engine swap

Are you doing a V6 or a V8? Either way, the t-case is moved back as far as required by your enging placement. As far as the intermediate shaft is concerned. You will need a custom shaft using the output of the 200R4 and the input end of the stock T-case. I would have gone 700R4 myself. Oh yea........I did. LOL. My front and rear shafts are the same length, 25".

Re: 4.3 engine swap

Did you have to move the t-case back with your 700R4? This paticular swap already had the 200R4 in it. I just bought it from e-bay. Brian

Re: 4.3 engine swap

Why did you choose the 700R over the 200R? I will be shopping for a tranny/t-case soon so let me know what to look for. Thanks.

Re: 4.3 engine swap

I chose the 700R4 because it has a removable tail shaft and alows for a bolt up D18 with an adapter. The 18 is much like the stock Zuk case with offset and drop. But is stronger than the stock unit. The stock t-case will only handle 175 hp. I think my t-case location is actually forward of stock, as my driveshafts are the same length.
I also pulled my front axle ahead 6" .
