power loss

Is it normal to have a big loss in power with a rebuilt motor? What could cause this?

what type of noises do you have? how did you break the cam and motor in? I need a few details to try to figure out what is going on.

Re: power loss

Well its my first rebuild, but i have the same cam in the head. It has a slight oil leak that i have to fix before i really drive it much, as for breaking in the motor i just have ran the engine and and drove around my block a bunch of times. By the way its the 16v. And do you guys have any cams for that motor?

Re: power loss

At first i had a fast sounding knocking the first few times i ran the motor but they seem to be disapearing, i was worried that it was a connecting rod but i didnt think so. Have you ever heard of a connecting rod going so soon?

(((By the way its the 16v. And do you guys have any cams for that motor?)))

yes, but only one will work with EFI.

(((Have you ever heard of a connecting rod going so soon?)))

yes, but never on a motor we rebuilt.....had a guy sell a GTI motor to a friend, told him to "keep Dave away from it, because it only has 8 thousand miles on it, and don't need any work done to it"....

ok, I kept my hands off it (I like to Bore them out ya see)....so anyway, first my friend tried to find everything he needed to drop his complete GTI engine in his Zuk, wiring harness, and all the other fine products required to make it go.....no such luck, he was looking at and additional $500 to a grand to get it going.... And being a poor collage student with a loan from Mom and Dad to buy the motor...he knew he had to cut some corners....

so the next affordable option was an 8 Valve head....but then it would run the risk of total distruction if the timming belt blew..... so now he needed to either find some 8 valve pistons ar have his knotched.... upon taking them out to have them knotched...we found a bearing about ready to spin...."on an 8K motor"......not good!

we had the crank turned, and ended up using his stock pistons....and gave him a couple extra timing belts...lol

now, you know the rest of the story.....new motors right off the line can and do go BOOM....ouch

Re: power loss

What kind of carlessness would lead to that?
