Happiness at last....

Hi all. I spent this afternoon installing the 4.16 transfer case I just got from Trail Tough. I've also done the carburetor mod that lets me rev the engine by flipping a dash-mounted switch. I put the t-case in 4-low, flipped the switch, and went crawling around my property in 1st gear with no feet on the pedals!!! Happy happy joy joy!!!
For a little while, I wasn't Surly at all!!!

Re: Happiness at last....

If you have a carbureted 1.3 with the stock carb, you can rig a dash-mounted switch to bump up your RPM's to whatever you want. It's like having a "third foot" on the gas pedal.
There's an article about the modification on-line somewhere -- I got it from Todd D. (88.5_Samurai). It's a very cool mod. I will try to scan the hardcopy later this evening and post it for ya, if Todd doesn't beat me to it...

Re: Happiness at last....

you can do it to any carb, actually. go to a you-pull-it type wreckers, and look for a vehicle that has AC, and a littel solenoid attached to the carb - what its supposed to do is bump up the idle sped when the AC is turned on - if you wire a switch to the dash you can bump the idle whenever you want.

if Suzukis are 'easy' I suspect the AC equipped models have this solenoid already, so you can just wire in an auxilliary switch.

Re: Happiness at last....

Okay, I've scanned the article, edited it, and converted it to text-only format. The article is from "The Katana". Let me say that if I'm breaking any copyright laws, I'm sorry, it was unintentional. I thought I'd come up with the idea myself, until 88.5_Samurai told me about the article. This is a very cool and useful mod. Enjoy!
PS. I will not be held responsible for fires or other damage (LOL!) As with all vehicle modifications, you do so at your own risk.

Re: Happiness at last....

Nope. You EFI people have enough advantages over us carb'ed folks already! Allow us SOME dignity!
(You can use the thumb-operated cable that mounts to the shifter instead.)
