Pontiac thermostat housing that fits a 1.3?

It was mentioned to me in another post that there is a Pontiac thermostat housing that will fit the 1.3 manifold. Thought I would try a separate post to see if anyone knows what year/engine?

Thanks.

I'll be back.

I'd start checking the mid 80's fwd Pontiacs. Go to an auto supply, and compare the gaskets. Or, take a trip to the boneyard.

Is the reason for asking this because the Pontiac thermostat housing will accept a standard sized fitting for a temp gauage? If so, I would be interested in finding this information out as well.

Wouldn't having the temp sender between the thermostat and the rad not be quite as accurate? Maybe I'm missing something....

Yer right Crow, it wouldnt. But I thought there was an easier way to get a standard sized guage fitting in there without drilling and tapping.

Re: Pontiac thermostat housing that fits a 1.3?

If your using a non zook carb and not using the BVSV, it can be removed and the new temp sender can be threaded in with an adapter. I tried the metric adapter kit, but that didn't work. I ended up using the adapter that came with my gauge. It's a tight fit because the threads are not a perfect match, but it doesn't leak at all.

I've checked to see what Pontiac vehicles use the same thermostat gasket. Here's what I've found:

Bonnevile 87-88, 92-98

Firebird 85-89

Grand Prix 97-98

T1000 81-87

Specific motors were not listed, but this is a start for whomever wants to pursue this.........

Yes. I'd like to stay away from drilling and tapping the manifold.

Re: Pontiac thermostat housing that fits a 1.3?

Thanks Crow. I went out this evening after work and started looking for some alternate ways. I think I can get the temp. sensor to work using some brass fittings and a 3/8" close nipple. There is an open port just behind the thermostat where I think I can tap in (it appears to be 1/8" NPT). Saw your post when I got back - thanks for looking up the gaskets. I will keep this as another alt. if what I got this evening doesn't work for some reason.

I'll be back.
