polaris drive clutch

I just had the primary clutch on my '98 xcr600 rebuilt because it failed while i was riding in the north country. The clutch makes a noticable noise when you burp the throttle. My shop that serviced it said that the bushing was close to being to loose on the shaft and that it may blow up again. Could this noise that i hear have anything to do with it? my '94 XLT always made this noise, just wanna see if anyone knows about this. It's almost like a hissing noise or a backlash, don't know. Thanks for your help!

Re: polaris drive clutch

What kind of noise? If it is a squeal then it may be belt clearance. A new belt pushed to the bottom of the primary and then toward one side or the other should have about the thickness of a playng card gap. Also in the middle between the clutches 1.5 inches of deflection. If some other kind of noise give us the details. Just a note the Garmax lid bushing service interval is about 1000 to 1500 miles. They aren't very hard to change.

Re: polaris drive clutch

It's more of a SHHHHHHH noise. It happens when your on the gas and then let off. I know that it is hard to explain this way. That bushing that you mentioned was replaced. My service man said that the main shaft through the clutch was slightly worn, and that my original problem may or may not happen again. Thanks for your help!

Re: polaris drive clutch

Here's a dumb question.. are you sure it's clutch? Could it be a gear whine? Check chain tension and oil level.
