I NEED HELP!!!!

I picked up a set of old Evinrude Bobcats. They are a 1969 and 1970. one is a 400 and the other is a 440. I got one to run damn good starts right up and runs great. But it eats belts i mean it burns them right up. any suggestions as to what would cause this??? i am new to snowmobiles.

next problem is that the other sled is not getting any spark i am going to check the magneto when i get home from school today but any help here would be appreciated.

Re: I NEED HELP!!!!

what do you mean by clutch off set???? also the clutches seem to be moving properly they move in and out with no problem but when it hits the belt it just starts smoking and the machine doesnt move. i greased the clutches and it seemed to help a little but it still doesn't hook up like it is supposed to.

Re: I NEED HELP!!!!

Offset is a spec on newer machines, the clutches are offset so as they open and close the belt runs straight. Otherwise, they'll tear belts apart.

Your issue sound more like frozen bearings someplace. You definetly have something bound up

Re: I NEED HELP!!!!

the engine might not be making enough power to close the clutches,or the clutch could be binding under load. being from 1970 i would have the clutch rebuilt, the bushings are more than likely worn causeing the binding under load.put on a new belt too. good luck.
