I need help-1973 Polaris

Hi. I am really new to snowmobileing so I am stuck with this problem.
I just bought a 73 polaris, is there a spot on the web where I can get information on it(anything). I do not have a manual.
The machine has all new lines and cables, but when I try to start it the gas is not getting past the new gas filter. Could this be a bad fuel pump?? Is there a way to check these.
I would appreciate any help I could get on this, I am dieing to go sleding.
Thanks alot.

You would have to apply vacuum to the pump and see if it either draws fuel or holds vacuum if you pinch off the inlet side. Will it run if you squirt gas in the carbs?

Re: I need help-1973 Polaris

It has not really run when I put either gas or quick start in the carb. It just coughed. I pulled the fuel pump off today and I am going to get a rebuild kit for it tomorrow.
I am not sure if it is always getting spark. Sometimes when I check for spark I get some and the last time I checked there was none.
Thanks for the help

Re: I need help-1973 Polaris

I just posted a reply on your fuel pump posting. It is hard to get a sled to run by just pouring some gas or squirting quick start into the carb. Try pulling both spark plugs and pour about an ounce of gas into each cylinder to see if it fires. It should run a few seconds during which time have a look at the fuel lines going to the carbs to see if any gas is pumped up to that point. If you aren't getting consistent spark check the coils to make sure the ground connection point is not corroded. Also that vintage of sled would have had mechanical breaker points so they may be pitted.

Thanks for the help. One wire has come off the coil so now I have to solder it back on, this might have been part of the problem.
