800 twins

looking to snow-check a 2001 800cc twin. has anyone seen or heard anything
on the mxzx or the zr? like the skidoo but wondering if the extra money is worth
it. any word on gas mileage on the skidoo. AC is claiming 14-18 mpg on the zr.
don't know whether to believe this or not.

thanks for the help

Re: 800 twins

You are not going to see anywhere near 18 mpg out of any high-performance sled. 10mpg tops. Why not a Polaris??

Re: 800 twins

don't know about the new cat but the series 3 rotax hybred reed motors run at very low bsfc (pounds of fuel per hp) numbers. Low .500 numbers bfsc are normal on stock safe jetted 600's and 700's, the new 800 should be the same. These numbers would be scary lean on other brands. For example a stock mxz7 dynoed with bsfc numbers from .477-.654. A jetted zrt800 on the same dyno showed .617-.722. The 800 polaris twins are also in that .6-.8 range. Right now rotax has the edge in making power with less fuel. Keep in mind though that the skidoo also holds less gas in the tank than the other brands.
