How much is to much!!!!

I have a 1992 Polaris indy 650 rxl that has been kept in great condition. But it has around 7,500 miles on it. Is that alot? I am worring about having to many miles put on it and then having one of the pistons blow. If you could tell me how much on average is alot of miles on a sled that would be great. Thanks, bean

Re: How much is to much!!!!

7500 miles is alot. If has not had it's rings replaced, it may be time. Machines can still build good compression and be way out of
tolerance on the rings. It is alot cheaper to have an engine rebuild before it blows. My XLT needed new rings and be bored out 20 over
after 5000 miles. I had to get new pistons and rings and have the cylinders done and it cost less than $500.

Re: How much is to much!!!!

I have some bad news. I fixed the bogging problem, it was due to a ground wire not connected to the engine well enough. But know it is making a very loud and bad banging noise when it i am going mid to high speeds. I think this could do to a blown ring or something like that. I was wondering how much it would cost to get 3 Pistons,Rings for the pistons, And all the gaskets I am going to need. I plan on doing it my self except the boring. I am going to have it bored by my local dealer. And then what ever size pistons he sujests I am going to by and put together my self. If you could tell me how much all this would cost that would be great. thanks, bean

Hi-Performance Engineering has Wiseco Piston kits for your machine for $345. Figure $150 to bore.

Re: How much is to much!!!!

Could also be a c clip on the wrist pin . Stock ones for that sled got brittle. Even if it is not the problem change them out. cheap now $$$$$ later. earlier I replied to your RPM question. My 650 was always in the 8700 and spike up to 9500. Only a little port polishing was done if you are changing pistons take the time and cleanup the rough stuff before they are bored.
