88 exciter probs

my 88' exciter is going through some problems.. I haven't rode it much lately because of a busy schedule.. but i have discovered a problem.. the engine bogs down and almost quits.. If i hit the throttle it just bogs.. but as i let up it jumps out of the hole.. any ideas!?!?! I'm not at high alts or anything.. new gas.. maybe jets? and does anyone know where to get a rebuild kit for mikuni vm-38's?

Re: 88 exciter probs

I just bought a 88 exciter and it has the same problem......The previous owned told me ha had just cleaned the carbs but I am going to pull them and clean them myself. Im thinking the problem is somewhere in the Idle circuit. maybe a plugged Piolet jet or a plugged passage in the carb body itself.....Ill let ya know if a go old fasioned cleaning takes care of my problem...If you have figured it out already let me know....Im going up to Island Park Idaho this weekend and want to take this sled along and see what it will do

if in doubt never lean it out

Re: 88 exciter probs

I would get rid of it , It is an engineering problem with that motor ,yamaha dealers never could get them to run strait. I had an 87 that did the same thing so take some advice from experiance and don,t waste your time and money just trade it or sell it
