Tri City was only reprograming the 97 rmk cdi's. They were programmed to the '98 and newer rmk ignition curve specs. They sent them out to be done to some company in New York. Mine was done the same time the pipes, head and porting were done so I don't know how much diffence it makes.
On my 97 RMK my dealer switched ot the CDI under Warranty to bring it up to the 98 and newer specs. It was an upgrade kit provided at no charge from the dealer. It took about 30 minutes to do all of the upgrades. I did it in the fall of 1998.
