\'90 Yamaha Phazer Trouble. Help

hi, i just bought a phazer and it ran great till 2 days ago. That morning it didnt start, since i keep it outside in a shed (no heat) i thought a gas line froze. i squirted gas into the spark plug hole and it would run for awile, (till the gas ran out) then stall. today i went out and put gas in the spark plugs and it ran and stayed running. the problem is that it runs at 5000 rpms(about 3000 high). does anyone know what the problem could be? i dont really want to tear the carbs apart yet since it may be a simple problem. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Re: \'90 Yamaha Phazer Trouble. Help

Flip the choke on while it is running that fast. It should slow right down and die if the choke is in good working order. Is the throttle cable moving freely and returning to idle position? If it is hanging up that would account for hard starting as well. At 5000 rpm the clutches should be engaged so don't let it run at that speed too long without the track moving or you'll burn a narrow spot in the belt.
