painting \'glass

I just got a set of fiberglass fenders, and I'm looking for advice on how to paint them and what to use. Price is definitly an issue here, but I want them to be black like the rest of my truck since I drive it every day. Ive been to a paint shop and they told me that you cant use regular automotive paint, that it'll flake off. They went on to quote me at $400 to paint them. Too pricey for me.... Will a quality rattle-can job do, or will I regret it? It's pretty much my only option, I dont want to buy a whole gallon of paint for the paint booth just for the fenders. Any advice?

Re: painting \'glass

If you have a decent truck, save up and have them painted by a professional.

If your truck is a beater, rattle-can or brush some home depot paint on. It'll look terrible if you do that on a decent truck. It'll look terrible on a beater too, but's a beater.

Standard automotive paint works fine over gelcoat. They may add a flex agent to it keep it flexible.
