can sand rails or dune buggys be streetlegal in MA.
I do a lot of traveling to and from work, and have thought of either building custom or buying a sand rail or dunebuggy. I am already into jeeps but it eats up gas pretty bad, thought that maybe another fun vehicle could do better.. So can sand rails and dune buggys be street legal and what does it take? Where can i find out?
thanks
jeff

Re: can sand rails or dune buggys be streetlegal i

Probably from the MA Dept. of Motor Vehicles and/or the State Vehicle Code. Which is a lot like finding a needle in a stack of needles.

Something like a Myer's Manx would be street legal. For the most part it has covered wheels, headlights, tailights and turn signals. There are now VW conversion kits for them to get the Manx look with a newer VW frame. Pricey though...

I used to live in MA, near Worchester (Dad is a Marine; traveled a lot). I don't believe I ever even SAW a dune buggy or railer until I came back to California (where the taxes are just as convoluted!)
