Convince me to do it!

Hey yall. I've been tossing around the idea of building an off road machiene. It's a toss up between turning a VW bug into a dune buggy or my 95 S-10 into a prerunner. I figure I can do the dune buggy thing for a total of about $1200-1500. What about the prerunner thing? The S-10 is in good shape, extended cab, manual tranny, with a 4 banger. I aint lookin to race it or anything, just something to play with. I would want to lift it, put on atleast 30" BFG muds (prefer 31"), new fenders or fender flares, and prerunner bumpers. I can make the bumpers myself, that's no big deal. I already got most of what I need in the scrap pile.

So with a truck in good shape, what can I expect to spend in the build up? Anything I'm overlooking?

Go to www.bajaconcepts.com

or www.kartek.com and you can see the CST long travel kit for the s 10. They use uniball upper and BJ lower. The ball joints have tendency to break so watch out!

If you can do the cage work, and bumpers and such, then the suspension and shocks are gonna be the wallet killers. DON'T skimp on shocks. And just cut the fenders or take them off completly if you wanna save some $$.

Thanks for the help cleartoy and Aaron.

Offroaddevil, do you have any reasoning for that statement or are you just a brand basher? The truck is here and paid for, so if I build a prerunner that's what's going to be used.

Re: Convince me to do it!

Anytime, and let us know how it turns out.

CST has the only decent bolt on kit out there right now that i am aware of. S10s like to eat lower ball joints. Ive seen it repeatadly on a truck that has gone on 2 runs to the dez with us, and another random s10 i came across on another trip.

I know a guy that has a CST kit on his truck that has modified it to accept a Uni ball on the lower arm(CST uses Uniball on upper only) and is doing fine and running coil overs after notching out the frame!

Re: Convince me to do it!

I've been looking throgh every site I can find about these things so I cant remember wich one it was, but I could have sworn I saw one that had a kit that you could choose if it used a uni-Ball or a ball joint. Was I imagining things?
Do you know the website to CST?
