Re: faster 400

By taking off the spark arrester wont be a problem at all for your 400ex, but by taking off the air lid might make something bad happen in the future unless you need to make it leaner if you had a pipe or exhaust system. I took off my spark arrester, it sounds cool and wont hurt it. But since you took it off on mine, it dont top out like it used too, but on mine too it speed up quicker. If ytou mant to make your go fatser but dont want to spend any money, on the left side of your 400, look at the carberhauter and on bottom left hand corner of it there will be a screw that u can turn with a regular screw driver, so then turn on your 400 and turn it and the idle will quiet down or make it louder witch mine is louder but dont turn it up all the way!

Re: faster 400

If you start to do exhuast and intake mods you may need to rejet your machine, because your quad may be running a tad lean. This can cause internal engine damage to your valves, and eventually piston...

just after you do your mods do a plug check and see how your machine is running, coconut brown is what your looking for, http://www.exriders.com/techarticles/sparkcolors.html

otherwise, it should smell or pop a lot when decellerating through the gears if lean.

If it is, up the main jet, you should be fine.
If High performance exhaust and filter are put in, a jetting change is def. needed.

Re: faster 400

how much money are you willing to spend, and is noise a factor? The LRD and Fatboy4 are race pipes, and are exceptionally loud, it may be best to go with something quieter if you got nieghbors
