Re: stock 400ex pipe

Normally doing anything to increase airflow will make the engine run leaner, requiring a increase in mainjet size to keep from damaging the engine, but I have read quite a few posts on here and other websites claiming the 400ex is usually jetted a little bit on the rich side from the factory, so if you nevr had the jetting changed, it might be ok. I would ride it hard after it warms up for a few minutes (preferably with a shiney new spark plug), shut it off and check the color of the insulator inside the spark plug, if it looks white, it's too lean, tan to light brown is just right, black is still rich and safe to run like it is. Good Luck
