Z400 jetting

I just put on a Yoshimura pipe system on my Z and was looking at what jet to install. The paper states that I need a 122.5. The shop told me that the bike came with a 130. Why would I be putting a smaller jet in? Can I keep the 130?

Re: Z400 jetting

I am not an expert, but i did stay in a holiday inn express a week ago, ...and a well respected mechanic here in las vegas told me that the jet sizes from the factory are different from the aftermarket jets. The sizing can even vary from company to company...so you have to get the formula for each company to see what the "real" sizes are. On my warrior it came with a 145 and I put in a dynojet 146. By the dynojet measurements the yamaha 145 would have only been a 138-140. Hope this helps, i would take this guys word 100% as he used to be an ATV engineer at dynojet. if you have not done it before, it is pretty easy and you will get very proficient at it in no time. Good luck

Re: Z400 jetting

Check out last months Dirt Wheels. They did a pipe shootout on the Z400 and tested every pipe. They gave Hp Specs, Jetting and airbox.
