Tire prices rising!

I haven't got this confirmed yet so it might just be a rumor but I'm hearing that tire prices are going to be rising significantly later this month. So if your in the market for tires you might want to buy now.

Now I've just got to decide if I'm gonna get the Wrangler AT's or MT's.

Technically something like this that convinces everybody to buy something due to the price going up in the future can inadvertently cause the price to rise, simply because of an apparent rise in demand and so forth... Might artificially raise the price even though it wouldn't have otherwise... Economics is a funny creature if I remember correctly...

Basically it's all just a game, just like going to a casino... Hit or miss... Don't mind me, it's 2am, and at this time of day I should be quarantined from a computer due to odd ramblings...(I also like the Cooper Discoverer STT's btw, they're what I currently have... Good tires, although they sing a little going down the road... Not obnoxiously loud IMO anyhow... But I digress...)

Re: Tire prices rising!

I agree, panic can cause prices to rise pretty easily. I don't know if you saw it but Peoria was all over the national news on 9/11 because everyone was freaking out and buying gas and the gas price rose to about $4 a gallon. I just drove by laughing at all the idiots lined up to pay that price.

As far as the tires go though, my dad said that a tire dealer in my home town had told him that when he was checking the price on the MTR's for me. And it wasn't just to get the sale, my dad is actually friends with the guy and he was trying to help us out.

I've always been a big fan of Goodyear. I had the old style MT's on my bronco and loved them, my dad had the AT's on our Suburban and they weren't too bad. I might have to check into the STT's though because I have heard a lot of praise around here for them. If they're cheaper than the $700 quote I've got on the MTR's they might be the way to go. Anyone know how much a set of 285/75R16's would run?

Re: Tire prices rising!

The mtrs are good on the road and very good in the snow mud sand and rock. a better allaround tire then the AT if you go offroad at all. redtoy92

Re: Tire prices rising!

Hmmm, I can get a set of 265/75 16's for about $240, $300 mounted and balanced. But then I have no problems running a retread tire on my vehicles, good for the environment and good for my wallet.

Re: Tire prices rising!

I could never run retreads. Just the thought of flying down the interstate at 85mph and having the tread separate gives me the shivers.

My dad's in Minnesota right now hunting, but I'll probably end up leaving my truck in Rock Falls next weekend so he can get the new tires put on before hnting season in IL. I'll probably have him get a qoute on the STT's at the same place to see the difference, but I've pretty much decided on the MTR's.

285/75R16 is the biggest I can fit on a 99 superduty without a lift isn't it?
