War in Iraq hits home.

My best friend flies CH-46s in the Marines (3rd Marine Air Wing). I go down and visit him in Miramar here and there. I've gotten to get to know all of his buddies...many of them fly Cobras. They are all over in Iraq right now. My best friends wife emailed me today and said that one of his friends, who stood next to me in my best friends wedding, was killed when his helicopter (cobra) crashed. His name was Ben Sammis and he left behind his wife of just 2 years.

I believe 100% that we should be over there and I support our troops. This is the tough part about war...freedom isn't free, in fact it's expensive...but worth it to future generations.

Any of you guys have friends over there? Or lost anyone over there?

Re: War in Iraq hits home.

I can't say i agree our guys should be there. Instead they should all be here watchin the TV as we drop nuke after nuke after nuke on them skumbags. Then we should send the protesters over there and start round 2. Then move to France and Syria and N.Korea and Iran and anyone else who gives me a headache. Then we should go to Isreal and Palestine and divide the Gaza strip in half. Then we tell them if they cross the line onto the other side we'll turn it into the Gaza strip mall after we nuke the piss out of them too.

Sorry was i ranting???

And by the way
My best wishes to anyone who has someone close to them over there. I want everyone to come home safely and with Saddams head on a stick.

Re: War in Iraq hits home.

Damm that a good on Saddams head on a stick. If I got it i would mount it to me grill like some people do with deer horns. Maybe it is just a Pa stick thing But I seen alot of deer horns on trucks ! I would have Saddams head stuck there and it would be my push guard . oop's was that a tree!

I say we turn it into one big piece of glass and then put a Mall of America on it. It'll be the world's biggest parking lot.

Re: War in Iraq hits home.

I was stationed at Miramar for over 3 years from July 98 to October 01. I had a Captain who flew Cobras part time and ran our shop the rest of the time, they were probably in the same squadron. Captain Thompson, last I heard he was on loan to one of the local college's ROTC programs, or something like that. I was in MWSS-373 ACES, the support squadron. My shop built the aluminum matting runways and installed the arresting gear for damaged aircraft to make arrested landings. They may not be able to stop themselves, but we can. The entire unit is over there. Feels weird. I'm here working my job, driving my truck, talking to friends, and they're over there in gas masks.

People keep asking me if I'm glad to be out of the Marines now. They expect some happy go lucky, "yup".
I'm almost starting to get a kick out of the looks of confusion when I stop and say no.
Just feels weird sometimes.
