Got salt?

Hi Folks
I'm going to further prove my southern envy by posting this pic, but I had to show you guys why the sheet metal around here has such a short lifespan. This is a picture of the salt that dried on the asphalt after I hosed my truck of with a pressure washer. Isn't that just fricken nasty? The department of highways is absolutely mercyless with the stuff here, and this goes to prove it. I try to rinse my truck off every chance I get, just so it isn't sitting on there...oh, and tons of undercoating helps too. Just thought I'd show you guys the miserable mess it is. Later.

Nothing like white roads. Another reason I want to move away from the "winter wonderland".

Re: Got salt?

how does any thing live in your streams ? the salinity of your creeks and ditches would probably choke a brine shrimp. all that salt must be pretty toxic to other things than just body metal . ....Von Warner

Re: Got salt?

Here in Cleveland Ohio, salt is just another type of road material. I was reading that if you have a vehicle in cold weather where there is alot of salt, it is better to keep the truck/car outside instead of in the garage. The constant temp outside doesn't allow the salt to do as much damage as the changing temp from in a garage and outside. Don't know how much truth to that.......

Re: Got salt?

whats really sad is the fact that this all seems normal to me as long as it is winter. i have to wash my truck once a week in the winter to attempt to keep it green and not white. (but dang put those colors together and they look pretty good)

Re: Got salt?

Yeah, it affects everything. The lawns aren't quite as full or green in the areas right next to the road. Half the time the snowplow guy gets a bit over zealous and takes care of that area nyways. I don't know specifics, but it does mess with the water around here. Helps to tear the [bleep] out of our already bad roads as well.

God, roadsalt sucks. Have I mentioned this lately? It and winter are probably the 2 major reasons I am going to move away from Michigan again.

Re: Got salt?

blah that looks so familiar. our roads are white. and then it rains and everyones trucks/cars are white. then it rains and everything is dirty and black again. and then we get 1/2" of snow and the white metal eating stuff comes back. like the episode where homer drives intot he salt tower and it eats neds car in 5 seconds.

Re: Got salt?

sand and salt SUCKS, few weeks ago we had just enough snow to scare people, the roads got plastered with snow and salt, in 3 days everything was melted, leaving in essence gravel highways if people would learn to drive, in the winter i drive on level b matience roads taht dont get salted or sanded, and i can go just fine, i htink im gonna find myself takeing more and more backroads when i start drivin the GMC shorty, mostly cuz i dont want cancer

Re: Got salt?

they had a story on salt killing some trees here in chicago and how they are trying to protect them from the salt. i guess the eco-freaks only care about the nature as long as it dosn't inconveniece them personally, no offroading? no road salt! i would be happy with that trade, but they just made the offroading illeagal instead.
