Re: Got my new Truck Stereo Installed Yesterday :)

What a bunch of morons, but sounds like other stories I've heard about stereo installers. I do my stereo work myself. I order it from Crutchfield who gives me all the stuff needed for installation, along with excellent installation instructions and great customer service, and I do it myself and know who to blame for an problems.

I've gotta put my Pioneer DEH-2400 into my Ram. Got it from Crutchfield for my Tracker last summer. Wonder what their prices are on just the installation stuff and brackets?

Yeah, it's basically car audio for dummies, but they really do have good service and products. Just research what you want, order it from them, get it fast, and install it yourself. This from me, "Captain Mechanically Inept".

Re: Got my new Truck Stereo Installed Yesterday :)

Yeah, i really hate car stereo shops.....
We had a stereo and speakers installed in our (now sold) 81 van, and had to take it back cause the sound was absolutely horrid!!
Well, they tried to blame it on old wires, and tried to 'sell' my parents on a re-wiring of the van. Well, that didnt go over too well, and they left. So me and my father fixed it in what had to be like 5 minutes! They just dont know how to wire speakers up, apparently. Somewhere along the line, they also got the idea that the van was wired with a positive ground, too! I dunno how they came to that conclusion, but that was the last time we ever had a stereo installed by them! (gee, and they went out of business a year or so later, too. I wonder why?)

And when i put a new head unit in my truck, i was lucky enough to find out that the crappy cd player that was installed before i bought it, was installed by some sort of genius who decided to butcher my wiring harness to do it!
Yeah, im never gonna have a stereo "professionally" installed, EVER!!!!!

Re: Got my new Truck Stereo Installed Yesterday :)

crutchfield is expensive. i found my aiwa mp3 headunit on crutchfield for 295 and then looked on another site for 225. it was 295 just for headunit. i paid the 225 and bought a scosche kit and it works well.

Re: Got my new Truck Stereo Installed Yesterday :)

I got a kenwood mp3 head unit from buyloud.com about a year ago for about 265 if i recall correctly, again saving somehwere around 25 by not buying it from crutchfield....
Of course, if it wasnt for them, i wouldnt have known it existed!

Like I said, "I order it from Crutchfield who gives me all the stuff needed for installation, along with excellent installation instructions and great customer service, and I do it myself and know who to blame for an problems."
Considering all the stuff you get with the gear you buy from them, and how easy it makes installation, the price difference isn't that big of a deal to me.

Re: Got my new Truck Stereo Installed Yesterday :)

why people have stereos installed is just beyond me. first off it aint rocket science, second doing it yourself is 1/2 the fun.
