Re: going in for tranny rebuild #3

Hey Tony, Have you ever used slick 50 or anything like that? If so, did it help the trans last longer? I know they make formulas for transmissions, transfer cases, and diffs. If you have not tried it, has anyone else? I have used the stuff in my motor, with results I was pleased with.

Re: going in for tranny rebuild #3

Instead of replacing the same tranny over & over, why not shell-out a few extra bucks now and convert to the 700R4 transmission and save cash in the long run?

Just a thought?

Re: going in for tranny rebuild #3

Good Idea Chris, BTW do you know if the 700R4 is also used in European GMs like the Opel Omega (they sell the actual one as Cadillac Cetera in the US)? If yes I would also think about a swap. The Omega Trannies are "growing in the Woods" here. I also had to replace the first Tranny with 100k Miles on it......grmpf

Re: going in for tranny rebuild #3

I'm not to sure about the European GM models, I'd have to do some hunting for that question? They have the adapters for the Patrols and Navara's, so I would think there would be a pretty damn good chance?

Re: going in for tranny rebuild #3

I know they attached the good old TH350 and TH400 on early 6&8 cyl. Opels (even the 8 cyl. were Chevy 350s), so there should be a very good chance though? Best is, they sell this Automatic Omegas in Millions here and you can get one with an AutoTranny wrecked for a couple of Bucks.....

Re: going in for tranny rebuild #3

Sounds good if I could convert to the tranny and keep my V-6 for the 1 reason that I just changed the motor not too long ago, but thanks

Re: going in for tranny rebuild #3

Hey Rock, how much does redline cost? Also are you still on factory built tranny number 1? If so, how many miles? 5 speed or Auto? Sorry for all the questions but I am trying to keep tranny #1 in the Frontier. Thanks.

Re: going in for tranny rebuild #3

I have a 5 spd in my 89. Factory tranny gave up the ghost at 195,000. I'm now on the same tranny but rebuilt (I wouldn't go this route again). I get my Redline gear oil at a local business but you can find local dealers using the Redline website. I pay ~$6.50 a quart - expensive but luckily you don't need very much for the tranny/diffs.
