Good Idea for a thread

2001 400 EX
Pro circuit T-4 slip-on
Front outerwears shock covers
Gripper seat cover (On it when I got it)

Soon to come:
Either a twin air or UNI air filter
UNI vents in airbox

The stock tires are a joke, so I'll probly get holeshot xct's, or klaws (BTW-anybody know if Klaws are radials?)
XR 400 cam, or maybe a more agressive cam...

Then I'll get the T-4 header.

Long List that is expensive, huh?

Yeah, sure, my brother let me beat his 300 EX just so he wouldn't hurt my feelings

I have a '88 Honda 250r, bored .100 over, CT National porting with cylinder spacer plate,FMF Fatty pipe, K&N with outerwears,no airbox lid, stock length LoneStar swingarm, LoneStar bearing carrier,Burablue axle,Works Performance shocks, steel front brake lines, parking brake block off plate, razor front tires, Turf Tamer rears <Razor rears in the plans for immediate future> also have Scat Track Haulers, and 22" Kenda Vipers for the woods <for when I need extra sprocket and brake clearance in the mud>, has Maer front and rear plastic, also have stock fronts w/headlight <for the rare night rides>, and nerf's but not sure what brand as most the work was done before I bought it. It's been paced on pavement @ 75mph , by 2 different cars , when geared for MX w/18 inch Turf Tamers. Also I have drag raced several 250 MX bikes, including 2002 CR 250r and been able to stay within 10' or so from start to top speed, losing only around 10 feet off the line, then holding. Not too many quads in the small town I live in, so don't know how it will do against the new beast's like the Raptors, and Predators, but pretty sure once it gets rough, the handling should make up for whatever power advantages they "might" have. Would love to find out if anybody else out there with similar mods, has raced those other 2 quads yet in a heads up drag race

yeah I read somewhere in a tire test in one of the magazines that they were suprised with the Knarley's performance, traction as good if not better than anything else out there, and less expensive than most top brands too. only drawback the magazines had was they weighed a little bit more than the holeshots or the Razors, which probably wouldn't be noticed with a 4 stroke, but with the 2 stroke lacking the bottom end grunt, I think the lighter tires might be better for me

hoping to catch up with a few of the newer quads later on this spring when things start drying out down at the local track, but until then, I know somebody that just brought his brothers brand new Banshee home the other day, just gotta wait until the brother makes the trip out here to ride the thing. I was kinda suprised at being so close to the dirt bikes ,especially with the extra 100+ lbs bike weight involved, all I can guess is it might have something to do with the 6 speed trans being closer spaced helping make up some torque or something, can't complain, I bought it in '99 for $3,500, cause the last owner was looking for a DS 650 lol

Rejet Carb
Tusk Off-Road Aluminum Handlebars
Trail Tech Speedoo
Hey guys any tips you have to make this thing even faster would be greatly appreciated!

hey tony hows that 14t sproket, heard a lot of people do ing it and it seems to awake the 400....i wouldnt go to a 150 or 155 mian it seems a bit high for a warrior, get a jet kit and see what they say, it may be around a 145

G

Switching the front sprocket down one tooth to a 14 is unbelievable. The front end comes up too easily and it pulls harder in every gear. There may be a slight loss in top speed (maybe 5mph max), but I don't scream it in high gear unless I'm on the street or at my neighbor's farm. He has a 5/8 mile dirt oval horse track we race the quads on.

He has a 400ex with a pipe, jet kit and air box, but has the stock 15 tooth sprocket. It'll be interesting racing him to see if the sprocket made up for the 1 1/2 horsepower mods he has. My guess, I'll take him through all the gears. The only way he'll beat me is if we hav enough room to top out.

if i remember correctly 145 is whats in the carb to begin with on a warrior. i have a 157 in mine with a pipe no lid and proflow an its jetted in pretty good with that...id start with a 155, check the plug and go up pr down from there. IMO jet kits are a waste of money jets are like 5 bucks a pop maybe fiddle with 3 sizes thats 15 bucks? way cheaper than a $45 kit

#24 ·
thats true but i got mine from moto man and it was a deal, 89$ for the power kit and i didnt know [bleep] back then so it helped, alright go with a 152 try, without lid off that is,
tony, i wish i had a 400 or something with that kinda power, i was thinking of going down to a 12t
but it would be too damn slow and i would be just racing through the gears, although i might jsut think about it for trail riding....are u on exriders.com? u should really check it out for all your questions etc, thats where i spend most of the time

G
#25 ·
about the sprocket, i my warrior was bought off of my grandfather and he had a 12t on it instead of the stock 13., he said it was 2 fast for him, lol. anyway i was nervous about putting on the bigger one up to stock because of power loss. i lost a little off the bottom end but it was worth it. now i dont go through all the gears in like 5 sec. if anything id go up a tooth on the sprocket unless your wanting to be pulling something.
