ok ya'll talked me into a msd coil (for both my 4x4's ). now the million dollar ? what sparks plugs ya'll and how about the gap the place i bought them from told me not to open the gap up. but hell i dont think he knew all that much about them he kept trying to sell me the wrong one.
Right now I have Accel header plugs at .058, wires, cap, coil and 300+ Digital Ignition System from Accel. I like it but there are better ones out there IMO!
MSD coil, Taylor Spiro wires, Ch. Truck Plugs gapped to 55. Alot of the guys open up towards 60, but I played it safe since I hate pulling plugs....another reason I like the longer lasting (3 year unlimited miles) Truck Plugs.
i might have to look into the champion truck plugs i had to order the k&n filter i should be in on tue/wed as for the plug wires right now they are the zones life time kind but msd wires are already in the works guy at the parts counter told me 50 for the wires and 150 for a msd 6 box
AC Delcos, at .055 (have been out to .060 with no trouble). Anybodies 8mm(currently Accel) wires, Jacobs cap and rotor, MSD TFI coil, MSD-6 (in for repairs currently{AGAIN!}).

I stumbled into a set of AC Delco plugs, likle ours, that come already gapped to .060
I think it was MuddyBronco that suggested I put their coil on first, and he was right. Mileage went up almost 4mpg with the MSD TFI coil gapped out to .060 initially.
I later installed an MSD-6, as it was a whole lot cheaper than the other MSD-6ALs, etc. Noticed a much smoother idle and better off idle to wide open take off, but no measureable increase in mileage that I could see.
As a matter of fact my MSD-6 has crapped out twice in less than two years and has to go back to Texas for repairs again. Depending on how they treat my problem you may hear an entirely different recommendation on MSD-6s in future.
I rarely mud and never "Fiord" streams with my Ford, and I mounted her up and outta the wet, under the hood. Yet they're telling me it's rusting their circuits out. I've had an MSD-5 under my Mopar's hood for 11 years and never a problem.
If I don't get satisfaction from them this time, I'll be shopping for the new Crane coil and multiple spark box combination (which, incidently, is cheaper than just the MSD-6).
man i love the msd coil and switch to k&n filter after i opened up the plugs i could feel the difference. no luck on champion truck plugs they are not listed for an 80 inline 6 for some reason have find an alternate. next thing is to change to msd plug wies(should be after this weekend )with this rain we are getting time to go play on sat. also looking on ebay i found a 4bbl intake carb and headers thinking about them hard .
actual i saw some spark plugs i plan on getting, they have 4 gaps you can set on them so it will always eb able to choose the path of least resistance. now that i think about ti i think they might be the platnium+4.
Ha Ha that's funny. I'm running 7 Champion truck plugs and 1 Autolite! I broke one ooops! Need new ones anyway there all messed up from my truck runnin' rich.
when your msd goes bad how can you tell is it abvoius that its the msd6? the reason i ask is that i would hate to spend 2 days looking for the problem just to find out that its a 6 month old msd6.
You know your MSD-6 is having a suck fit when...... I came out one wet November morning and the truck would crank over like normal, but no kicking like firing.
Thought is was one of my anti-theft devices, checked, nope they were all set to start. Checked everything before suspecting the MSD-6, then remembered it's last failure at only 6 months old.
Had the good sense to buy the MSD quick connect adapter for the coil, so I just unplugged the MSD-6 and plugged the stock harness plug back into the MSD TFI coil and vroom ! she started right up !
Still have to send the MSD-6 back to Texas for repair. If I get any flack from them I'm going Crane and I'm going to submerge the unit in silicone seal before I mount it.
Sixlitre,
The Crane ign. boxes are already fully potted in epoxy so you dont need to silicone anything , MSD also offers their *Off-road* 6 box fully potted also, its a lot more $$$ ($213.00 from Summit) and crane has drastically raised their ignition component prices recently also , the HI-6 box alone from summit is now 2 bills, they used to include the HO coil & harness for that price...
Guess I won't be shooting my mouth off at MSD about the Crane unit being cheaper

Just about to stick in a new set of AC Delcos I gapped at .055 for my emissions check later this month. Guess I'l be facing the sniffer with just my MSD TFI coil and no MSD-6. Hope I pass. The new exhaust has the truck smelling like a GM now, so I guess the new cat is working well.
thank god for alabama we dont have any type of tests on our vechicles down here . i hated it when i lived in NJ they are so strick up there i believe we have a limit on how high we can go but i dont think its ever enforced they guy down the road has 44's on a 76-79 ford f-150.he's got to be running atleast 12" of lift
Summit still sells Crane multiple spark boxes, with a TFI style coil, adapter wire and free rev limiter all for $159.00 ! That's exactly 10 bux more than MSD's stripper MSD-6 that's quit on me again.
Look it up underpart # CRN-6000-6301 in Summit's catalog.
